Honesty, versatility, innovation, persistence, and quality are values that define Rebecca Patterson's approach to both music and life. She views music as a language — one where no note or phrase has a fixed definition, yet each implies meaning. For Rebecca, improvisation is a form of storytelling: deeply personal, fleeting, and reflective of daily human experiences.
A 2014 graduate of Berklee College of Music, Rebecca moved to New York City and quickly became an integral part of the city's rich musical landscape. She has held chairs on three Broadway productions — Smash, Sweeney Todd, and Tammy Faye — and has been the bass trombonist for the Radio City Christmas Spectacular for three consecutive seasons (2022–2025). Her Broadway credits also include subbing for Aladdin, Wicked, Gypsy, Funny Girl, and with the house band at Saturday Night Live.
Rebecca co-leads the Trombocalist Big Band with Ron Wilkins. Their debut album, The Vigil and The Sleeping Giant, featuring all original compositions by the two co-leaders, will be released on April 19, 2026, alongside a live release show at Birdland Jazz Club. Rebecca performs on both bass trombone and tuba on the recording.
Her performance résumé spans a wide range of genres, instruments, and collaborations. She has performed on tenor trombone, bass trombone, and tuba with:
Christian McBride Big Band, Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band, The Mingus Big Band, Count Basie Orchestra, Ron Carter Big Band, Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Birdland Big Band, Steve Feifke Big Band, Arturo O'Farrill's Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra, Charlie Rosen's 8-Bit Big Band, Lenny Pickett's "A Short March Into the Future", Chris Potter Big Band, Jon De Lucia's Brubeck Octet, Eyal Vilner Big Band, Erica Seguine Jazz Orchestra, Jhoely Garay Big Band, Ines Velasco Jazz Orchestra, New Alchemy Jazz Orchestra, Livio Almeida's Brazilian Dectet, Rufus Wainwright, Marcos Valle, among others.
Rebecca's versatility also extends into the video game music world, with recording credits on Red Dead Redemption 2 and Jackbox Party: Job Job.
In addition to her performance career, Rebecca is a passionate educator. She maintains a private teaching studio and serves as a mentor to young brass musicians, sharing her knowledge and experience with the next generation.
